HAAKTOWN!! this weekend...

I got this email from Dan Rader and he kindly asked me to post this on the site. I know it's totally last minute but it'd be super cool if any of us could make it.

++++++++

Hello everyone,
Contrary to what we all thought was going to happen, it turns out i will be an active participant in my collective's project:HAAKTOWN. this project takes place this weekend, and everyone is welcome to come, camp, and partake in a township created by and for you. come make the town function! Peekskill is only an hour away on the metronorth (directions later). so you can come whenever you want - camping on saturday night promises to be the most fun. there will be all sorts of tents, goodies, food, music, and fun. imagine the muster, but Haaktown will make more sense. Artists, writers, historians, sociologists, anthropologists, musicians, burningman veterans and hopefuls, peace lovers, hippies, and hicks will all find this interesting, i promise.
if at all interested, call me for answers to your questions about the weekend
love

Hello soon to be fellow HAAKTOWN citizens!
The day is quickly approaching when the fruits of our labor will grace the
public sphere! It's time to celebrate and revel in it all.

But first, here is a list of preparations we still need, things you should
likely bring with you, and information about the exodus which will create
the populous for Haaktown.

Friday: Meryl and Leah will be driving up to Peekskill. Our vehicle will
be pretty much full of last minute Haaktown accoutrements so arrange with us
if there is something you need driven up there and we will try to
accommodate whatever it is. We will be working feverishly all Friday
evening and into the night to get everything set up appropriately for the
festival's opening at 11AM on Saturday. But besides work, this will truly
be the beginning of life in the town of Haak. We will begin to feel out the
roles, claim the space and function in our wacky wondrous way.

Saturday and Sunday: Haaktown is Open

What to bring:

-Item for the altar (Bring an item that you would like to place on the
altar in the house of worship tent. This will be, as we see it so far, a
quiet place for peace and contemplation. A collection of items from the
collective will ground the whole thing and be a quiet lovely harmonizer.
These items will obviously be coming back to you. Feel free to make/find
something new or bring something you already have in your possession that
seems right.)

-Clothes, jewelry, shoes, etc for the Free Boutique

-Books to loan out for the Library

-Slides (we picked up a slide projector and would like to have a night of
entertainment come out of it - bring any slides you can lay your hands on)

-Ideas for events/classes to be put on the event board and held at the
school (anything! wahoo for learning - anyone know how to get a butterfly to
land on your finger? I've been trying to pick up that class for years...)

-Writing about the town - fact and fiction - for the Bureau of Tourism (Write a history or some fun
facts or a walking tour. It doesn't matter if the stories contradict -
history is chaotic and mutable.)

-Hangable art for our Community Art Gallery (back dropped by live chickens -
I kid you not)

-Bedding bedding and more bedding and tents

-Food. *Note: You might want to bring something special to have on Sunday
for the 3 p.m. brunch, potluck event. We will have access to a grill and
hot plates - best if its as prepared as possible before hand.

If this list seems overwhelming, concentrate on one or two things that you are really excited about and go all out!
Use this as a check list!!! Call if you have questions! 714 403 0136 Brieana

Also, attached below is a flyer with event info that you can print out and
disperse freely. Please do so!

DIRECTIONS:
The link for the train schedule is:

maps of Peekskill Projects (over 100) are at the train station. make your way to the HAAKTOWN dot.

IF YOUR BROW IS FURROWED:
if you're a little confused about what HAAKTOWN is, here's a little info from the proposal submitted to Peekskill Artist Projects (a yearly happening that turns the town of Peekskill into an outloud artist enclave).

Haaktown: Message from the Mayor
We intend to create a microcosm of a community within the greater community of Peekskill, that will both coexist with and serve as a reflection of the values and structures that serve to define our understanding of township.

Haaktown: Structures
We have compiled a list of structures that we feel are necessary to bringing to life a functional community.
These are (in no particular order):
Lodging
Food/Drink
Health services
Communication
Law
School
Religion
History/Culture
Consumer Goods/Trade
Government Services
Entertainment

Each category will be represented through various means. Some will have their own tent. Others might be communicated through performance, props, and role-playing. The categories will be mined for their metaphysical functions as well as their practical role within a community and will vary based on each individual's method of interpretation as well as the eventual involvement of the visitors.

Haaktown: Visitors
Visitors will be able to interact with the town as much or as little as they desire. Some may remain strangers just passing through. Others may choose to experience Haaktown as tourists, taking advantage of guided tours, attending shows, eating and drinking from the restaurant, shopping in the stores and taking pictures at the scenic outlooks. Still others may decide to become working citizens of Haaktown. In order to receive visas they must complete a job interview with our Special Task Agent. During this interview the Agent will create a job in Haaktown that best suites the interviewees special talents and personality. Each participant can choose from an array of town positions/personalities such as Town Fool, Greeter, Librarian, Town Drunk, Crazyman, Barmaid, etc, or create your own! and wear a sash to display your role.

Sorry everyone....

Had to move the site. There was a severely aggressive trolling attempt. You may notice email coming from this guy. In any event, you're here, all's well, and I'd like to hear some awesome stories from the burn....

Thank You!

Thank you everyone for making this year's Burning Man so joyful and memorable. We had a great group of people and built a welcoming camp. We gave away lemonade, which in my opinion, was a wonderful treat. The cosmos also helped.

Thank you everyone for pulling their weight and making our camp a reality.
