Drama

it wouldn't be life without the crazy shit, right? so my purse got stolen last night at work... sucky. fortunately the crooks only got my car keys, cell phone, chapstick and a $3 pair of sunglasses. at least my identity is safe. but this brings me to my point, which is that i am now lacking in all of your phone numbers. so, if you like me enough to want me to be able to get in touch with you, please post that number, or, to feel more secure, you can email me at rtg209@nyu.edu. whatever works for y'all. and this goes for anyone living anywhere, whether i've known you for years or if i gave you this website adress two weeks ago. thanks guys!

Camp Fee Update

As some of you may have already gleaned from this blog, we thankfully have an adjustment in our camp fee rate.

Everyone in our camp now has to pay $150 each. There may be a possibility of a refund if we spend less than our expected budget.

Please send me your money either by PayPal or check. For paypal do not send money through a debit or credit card - my paypal account can only accept money that's been sent directly from a banking account. My email address is monica.scott@gmail.com. If you want to send me a check my mailing address is: Monica Scott, 451 7th Avenue, Apt. 2R, Brooklyn, NY 11215. I'll start accepting money now, but everyone should have sent money to me by July 15th. If I haven't received your money by then I WILL HAVE TO START STALKING YOU! (and I really really really don't want to do that.)

Any questions? you can call or email me.

Lime Meeting

The meeting last night at Sam's Limewire party was productive and fun. Thank you Sam for hosting us and for being such a great guy. The hangover today was mesmerizing. The following is a hodge-podge of notes from the meeting:

1) We will christen ourselves as the "Elation Station" camp.
2) We are expecting roughly 15 +/-5 people in the camp this year. Despite warnings of more people coming, we'll budget for 15 and build for 20, which means that if needed, we'll be able to accommodate 25.
3) This year, we're planning to host the following activities: four square including "the ball", red rover, lemonade stand, and a misting station. We will have at least 1 announced event in the "who what where and when" guide, and it will include fun, misting and suntan lotion massages courtesy of Bill.
4) We are planning on renting a quiet generator so we will have such amenities as music, lights, and a hot plate to cook up stuff.
5) As was decided previously, we will try to do as much pre-cooking as possible. Suggestions were lasagna. Prepared foods will be cheaper and vegetarian for those that want to continue to vegetate. Ruth volunteered to be the head pre-cooking chef, and she'll likely need one or two additional pairs of hands to help her. (If anyone enjoys doing this, please volunteer, otherwise I'll do it.)
6) CCC (couches, carpets, and coffee tables) will be stored at Andrew's brother's building, either in the garage or somewhere else. Andrew will attempt to loan a truck in the beginning of July to pick up these items throughout San Francisco. Paul, Helen and others in the area, please help him.
7) Given that the cost of the truck accounted for 75% of the cost of our camp last year, we are going to attempt to lower that cost. We suggest posting a posting on Craigslist stating that we would like to rent a 15 foot box truck from someone for a week for $500. If they like, we'll buy him a ticket to BM ($250), and pay for the gas, and he can drive it there for us. This would roughly come out to $1000, which is $500 less than we spent on the truck last year. If the person is willing to rent us the truck and does not want to go to BM or drive it, then we'll offer them $750, and pay for the gas. That will come out to be the same $1000. In the worst case scenario, we will have to rent a Budget (or some other) truck like last year, and swallow our budgeting pride.
8a) Bikes: considering that taking bikes in the truck is the most inefficient use of space, we would like to take them on bike racks attached to cars. If you do not possess a bike rack, as I imagine most of us don't, they are regularly sold on Craigslist for up to $50, and usually less. This will save space in the truck and allow us to bring such things as a burnable bar (as in alcohol serving station), which Andrew currently possesses.
8b) Bikes: for maximum enjoyment of your Burning Man experience, the possession of a bike is essential. As we experienced last year, if we don't have enough bikes, they tend to be lost more frequently, because people inherently don't care about other people bikes. So, it is quite essential to bring a bike for every soul in our camp. Andrew suggested getting cheap bikes for $20 from a San Francisco bike lending library (Andrew you'll have to elaborate on that one, because I missed that part). Your bike is your responsibility.
9) Playa conditions this year should be quite nice due to the fact that the whole West Coast experienced heightened rainfall this year. Checking out this map, http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/cacanom/images/ppctwy.gif.
Pretty amazing indeed. As you can see from the map, the area where BM is staged received 212% of the normal rainfall this year. This means that the playa will be nice and hard this year and there should be fewer dust storms.
10) Costs: So far we've estimated the following costs:
-Scaffolding $200
-Truck $1500 (worse scenario), $1000 (better scenario)
-generator $220
-PVC pipes/rebar $100
-water $100
-communal food $100
There will undoubtedly be other costs.
11) Payments for camp: last year we collected $150/person for the camp. We were somewhat short and had to ask you for additional funds to pay back people that footed the bill. Having learned from that experience, we'd rather collect more money upfront, and return the remainders to you afterward. That being said, we would like to collect $200 from each camp member by July 27, 2005. Monica, has taken on the task of being the treasurer this year, like she was last year. We are all thankful in advance for her taking on this collosal duty, as it is the most difficult and similar to pulling teeth. Please ease the pain and we'll all be happy like clams.
12) We will be building a similar shade structure to last year's designs, with some adjustments. First, we are planning on getting columns (courtesy of Andrew), that will flank the entrance to our jellyshute. The parachute will be bunched in places in order to reduce slack, thus reducing the amount of wind pushing against the jellyshute. The perimeter of the shade structure will be higher from the ground this year, and we will attach 7-8 sails in order to create additional space and more shade to block out the sun during those sweet morning sleeping hours. Bill claims that we'll have a slight Bernouli effect. We'll need to bring some very fine measuring devices in order to test that hypothesis, or we'll just trust Bill on his word.

This is all for now. I apologize for the length of this communique, but it was necessary.

Lastly, if you have friends who are going to be joining our camp this year, could you please nudge them a little and ask them to check out this site and start participating. Even though we might not know you yet, we'll become good friends in the desert.

Peace,

Doublestar Moonduck Onionfoot

2nd Planning Meeting

So, I propose we have our planning meeting this Thursday at the Limewire party. Even though Andrew's not going to be there until 11 or later, I think the rest of us should meet there at 9:30 so we can go over some stuff before getting too drunk.
Let me know if you'll be able to attend at that time.

Me

As a direct result of reading the most heartwarming posts that have ever been posted about me in a blog (I hope), I've finally purchased my ticket to fly out to New York next weekend. Can we still have a planning meeting on Thursday the 12th? Due to the severe Priceline nature of my ticket, I will be arriving at JFK at 10:15 PM, which means I wouldn't get to McSorleys before 11:30 if I take the express train to Grand Central. Also, would anybody care to party it up all night Saturday to help me stay up for a 7:15AM flight Sunday morning?

BTW, does anybody know of a better way to get to Manhattan from JFK? I can spend more than a subway fare but I'd rather not throw away 10 beers on a cab fare.

Fundrazor

Hey Guys,

The rich put-together bastards in my building had booked up the whole month of May since the beginning of April. KILL THEM!

Anyway, so I booked Sunday the 22nd for our party (6PM-11PM). I might still be able to get Saturday the 21rst. I'll know about that in about a week.

But I think a Sunday party would be successful as well, since we have to vacate by 11PM Anyway.

Also, let's keep in mind that we can't break anything there. I'm putting down a large deposit check which the WILL cash if we go nuts.

In honor of all the weird colors and strange smells coming from the newly inaugurated Twilight Lounge, I'm saying good bye.

Note

The Den of Debauchery, the epitome of decadence, The Twilight Lounge has been erected, and is, as of today, fully functional, however uncompleted.

This has been done in Honor of Andrew, to Whom the lounge is not only dedicated, but inspired.
