3 Cheers for Bill!!!

Thanks so much for all your hardwork getting the site working again. You are the man! As these crazy LA people say, you are clutch and we would be floatin without ya!
In other news, andrew, reiss and i are doing our part to see if we can't have some sort of donation party at the end of this month, which i hope to coordinate with jael's visit, because that's more than enough excuse to party!! When do you nyc kids think you might be having yours? And should we manage to raise some money, how would we go about getting it into the paypal account, my dearest monica-money-person?
In sucky news, i finally had my oral surgey last week, so all those who had to hear me bitch about my tooth, well, now you can hear me bitch about my swollen, asymetrical, throbbing face. On the upside, when the pain finally subsides, the oral problems should theorectically be over. Or will they have just begun....

Pink Party

This saturday. Pink. It's a party. It should be pretty wild. I don't really know the details, but Dave a.k.a "SailorBoy" apparently knows the story.

fundraising

Hey guys, David here. The new guy.
I got to thinking today about a possible way to raise funds for the camp. Being that a lot of us New Yorkers are in the habit of going to McSorley's once a week, I thought, what if we could somehow capitalize off our booze habit? Basically, what we would do is this:
we'd all agree on a weekly location to drink together, and we would coordinate with the manager of that establishment some kind of a deal. If we prove to them that we will bring in X amount of dollars or people each week--provided that we get a small percentage or a flat kind of a kick-back--they might actually go for it, the logic being that they would be guaranteed a certain amount of profit each week that they otherwise wouldn't have. We'd do it on one of their slower days (sunday-thru wednesday) to make it more appealing. I'm not sure how many of us involved with the camp are actually in NY and have the means to show up every week to drink, but if we had a regular crew, we most certainly could lobby for a small kick back. They scratch our back, we scratch theirs, everyone gets drunk. If we were able to even pull off $50 extra bucks a week, then in the next 25 weeks, we'd have an extra $1,250. It would certainly take some of the sting out of our collective camp fee.
anyhow...just an idea. I figured since we go out drinking once a week anyway, we may as well try to make it somehow profitable. I'm not sure how possible or practical all this is, but it's worth a shot. Ideas?

Flying, Fucking, Burning Pigs

Last weekend, the Borg2 group went nuts and through a "benefit" party for the art fund. The idea, from what I got in the email, was to fill a paper mache pig with coins through donation and then burn him to let the coins out. Here's an article that actaully describes what happened. It's a decent article to read for more up-to-date info about the Borg2 project, but if you're short on time just scroll down to the last section describing the party. Holy fucking sheizehaus. Sounds like old Burning man all over again, but with more crazy.

Also, there's an interesting aside about the Madagascar Institue, which has been elected guest curator for the Borg2 project. For all of you in New York, it's worth finding out if there are any MI sponsored events in the region, it sounds like a burning, exploding, gun toting DeLaGuarda troupe. During the last Borg2 meeting here, there was a lot of talk about "hoping" the Institute would be up for the job, as it sounds even more dangerous than Survival Research Laboratories (which will of course be present as well).

music

since we are planning on a generator that mens we can have music... I am sure we can al find plenty of cds we can bring and play but what about speakers? Since we have power it would be nice to have better then just a boom box.

Also what bout the possibility that we have 30 peole in our camp? because if the same 15 was it? go that went last year plus 3 more for sailor dave, plus Peter a friend of mine who is going and plus the more then lilely possibility of some sorely missed members from the year before we are already looking at a definite 20

Projects

So since we are discussing budgets, I wanted to ask about art projects... It seems to me that there is some interresting stuff going on this year. I hear Ruth is gone try to set up a corn field, Simon and Monica are playing around with speakers, and I am building a beat machine. SO are ther other inmteresting projects being planned? And is there going to be an project budget?

Food for thought

so, might as well start a thread about how we'll do food this year. if i remember correctly, some people realized that they bought way too much (not that i'm complaining... i still to this day have some leftover provisions!) and others that they wound up eating when other people ate and therefore shared a lot more than expected. does this perhaps mean more communal food and less individual? and of course i know no meat will be part of communal expenses. not an issue. but some foods like loaves of bread/ pitas or whatever? jellys and jams and nutella?! cereal?!?
anyway, i don't mean to scare anyone, but i figured, might as well start a thread...
